Puma and McLaren Racing Shift Motorsport Style into High Gear
In Formula 1, milliseconds decide races. Likewise, in fashion, timing can be just as crucial. With a new multi-year partnership, sportswear giant Puma and McLaren Racing are betting they can master both.
Announced earlier this year, Puma becomes the official outfitter across McLaren’s rapidly expanding racing portfolio. And yes, that includes the championship-winning McLaren Formula 1 Team, the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team, McLaren’s F1 Academy entries, the McLaren F1 Sim Racing Team, and, beginning in 2027, the brand’s upcoming Hypercar entry in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Uniforms just got a sharp upgrade.
Puma’s role begins where the action is hottest: the trackside. The brand will produce the official team kits worn by drivers, engineers, and pit crews, apparel engineered with the same performance-minded precision that defines motorsport itself. Interestingly, the real play lies in bringing the drama of racing into everyday wardrobes. The Replica Collection, for instance, dressed in McLaren’s unmistakable papaya orange, mirrors the gear worn by the team during race weekends. Think jackets, polos, and caps that allow fans to channel pit-lane swagger even if their commute rarely exceeds city speed limits.
Then there’s the Lifestyle Collection, a somewhat more relaxed interpretation of racing culture. Drawing on McLaren’s long design history, the line borrows a lot from motorsport iconography, turning it into contemporary streetwear. Assume cleaner silhouettes, graphic nods to racing heritage, and the sort of subtle technical detailing that appeals equally to sneakerheads and F1 obsessives.
It’s a timely move. Formula 1’s global audience, after all, has only surged in recent years, transforming the sport into a cultural staple all the while creating another arena where fashion labels and luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary houses increasingly compete for grid-side relevance. For McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown, the partnership signals a natural evolution.
“Our sport is in incredible shape, and it’s been fantastic to see an influx of major fashion and lifestyle brands that are looking for deep and meaningful ways to engage with our growing global fanbase,” explains Brown. “I cannot think of a better partner than sportswear giant PUMA to help us supercharge our portfolio of fanwear. PUMA’s innovative approach to design and culture will offer exciting collections and experiences worldwide.”
Fans, he says, want to express their allegiance beyond the circuit. So expect limited drops, special events, and immersive fan experiences in the near future, things that bring in more eyeballs to the sport.
