First Taste: A Double Debut by Gordon Ramsay in Cebu
I flew to Cebu over the weekend for the highly anticipated opening of two new dining destinations by Gordon Ramsay. Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips made its Asian debut, while Street Burger by Gordon Ramsay opens its first outpost in Southeast Asia. Full disclosure: This wasn’t a work trip. I was there as the sister and self-appointed cheerleader of the architect and designer behind both spaces, Lara Fernandez Barrios.
The entrance to Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips is bold cherry red with doors that nod to London’s iconic phone booths. Inside, the space evokes a lively market hall, framed by a triangular ceiling and fitted with maritime-striped cobalt blue and white booths. A tiled mural showcases Ramsay in his chef whites, flanked by a Philippine fishing boat on one side and a portrait of Lapu-Lapu on the other, a tribute to the city’s namesake hero.
On the menu, the signature crisp fish and chips, a slipper lobster and shrimp combo, and the Fishwich, golden, perfectly battered, and served with chips made from U.K.-sourced Koffmann potatoes. Malt vinegar is my preferred option, but classic tartare sauce or more modern dips such as honey jalapeño aioli, or a mango curry for a local twist, are available as well. For dessert, rich soft-serve milkshakes (unlimited!) tempt in flavors such as Biscoff and sticky toffee pudding.
Next door, Street Burger by Gordon Ramsay brings an industrial-diner vibe: fluted, thick-padded seats, white neon lights, and local graffiti woven into wall art, including a tiled photo mosaic of the founder. The standout on opening day? The Lechon Burger: a glorious stack of charcoal-roasted pulled pork, crispy pig skin, a smashed beef patty, jalapeños, pickles, and lettuce. Bloody brilliant.
Other highlights include the Hell’s Kitchen Burger, the G.F.C. (Gordon’s Fried Chicken) Burger, and the O.G.R. Burger. Dirty Fries are loaded with cheddar and bacon, while the ‘Hotter Than Hell’ wings come in escalating heat levels, from umami to sweet chili kimchi, with dips of sriracha mayo, guacamole, and tomato relish.
Temper the heat with a cold pour of mango beer by the local Bisaya Brew that comes on draft. And save room for a dish of soft-serve ube ice cream, a new flavor created especially for the Philippine launch.
Globally, Gordon Ramsay holds eight Michelin stars across his restaurant group, including three for his flagship Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, which has maintained its coveted three stars for more than two decades. The group continues to expand into more accessible concepts worldwide.
Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Street Burger by Gordon Ramsay are now open at The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, brought in by Alliance Global Group through Travellers International Hotel Group.
