Frederique Constant Makes Its Worldtimer Even More Elegant in Simplicity

At at Watches and Wonders this year, Frederique Constant launched its newest Classic Worldtimer Manufacture that boasts a refreshingly new clean, crisp dial.

Frederique Constant

Swiss watchmaker Frederique Constant began its journey in 1988 with the vision that the processes and the results of true fine watchmaking should be shared with as many people as possible. The finishing crafts, the complications, the levels of quality that were often seen in very traditional watchmaking houses and families needed to be exposed more in order for the whole watchmaking world to continue growing.

At the Watches and Wonders event in Geneva in 2026, they took one of their most successful and appreciated pieces, their Classic Worldtimer Manufacture. Their original Worldtimer Manufacture was launched in 2012, and it gave the market a complication that was almost exclusively the domain of higher priced watches and more storied watchmakers at what was considered a more “accessible luxury” price level. The nicely-executed world map from the original is still on the new piece but is now more complete, thanks to a cleaning up of the dial.

This year’s new watch follows the trend that watches are becoming smaller once again, but still have the crisp, clean (more clean now, actually) look that drew people to the original. The 2026 uses a 40mm case diameter that is 2mm smaller than the previous. It is also, at 12.53mm, thicker by .38mm but this is because they have created a new movement for the watch, which now has 72 hours of power reserve (up from 38). The bump up comes from the use of a longer mainspring. The new movement is completely decorated and is visible through the sapphire crystal back. You will see finishes including perl age and circular Côtes de Genève and satin brushing on the openworked rotor.

A key design change for the new watch is both welcomed and challenged. They removed the date indication. This means that the dial rings and sections look more clean and complete, whereas in the past, the date subdial at 6 o’clock made its way into the 24-hour track, the city ring and part of the world map. Now it looks nicely complete and balances. However, many consider date indication a key point for travel watches. The watch is to be considered a true world timer in that it shows a display of time in 24 different zones. Align the home time or reference city at the top and the 24-hour disc indicates correct time for all the appropriate cities with appropriate day/night indication shown by the two-tone colors.

The new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture will have three different dial treatments, including a special 88-piece limited edition has brilliant-cut diamonds in the bezel and diamonds in the indices set against grey continents and a sunburst light blue ocean. The familiar look of grey continents in relief against navy blue oceans and a blue city disc is also available. A different look can be had with a gradient blue ocean and a light blue/dark blue 24-hour ring surrounded by an off-white city ring.

The simplicity of operation that marked the earlier versions of the watch is still there. You select the city on the time zone disc by putting the crown in position 2 and, rotating counterclockwise, you set local or reference time in position 3. Many more historical world timers needed external correctors or embedded push pieces; the idea being you set the watch once at home.

Frederique Constant decided early on that simplicity would perhaps be best, and sought to create their own manufacture movements as a way to get exactly what they wanted. This new piece marks their 35th manufacture movement since they began.

In many ways, the new Classic Worldtimer Manufacture reflects the larger direction of contemporary watchmaking itself. Enthusiasts increasingly want complications that feel less performative and more integrated into daily life: slimmer proportions, cleaner dials, longer autonomy, and mechanics that do not require a manual to operate. Frederique Constant understood early that accessibility did not have to mean compromise, and the Worldtimer remains one of the clearest expressions of that philosophy. The complication itself may evoke travel across continents and time zones, but the appeal of this latest version lies in something simpler: clarity.

Frederique Constant watches are located at the following locations: its boutique in The Podium; Tempus in City of Dreams and SM Mall of Asia; and The Watch Store in SM City Fairview, SM City North EDSA, and SM Lanang Premier. Visit the website here.
