This Color-Shifting Porsche 911 Is the Marque’s One-Off Tribute to Australia
Porsche’s latest regional special edition may be its most beautiful one yet.
The German sports car maker’s Australian wing just unveiled a one-of-a-kind 911 Turbo S called the “Land Down Under” edition. The coupe features a stunning color-shifting finish and several design details inspired by the nation’s landscapes and the Southern Hemisphere sky.
The 911 Turbo S Land Down Under is, like the trio of Toy Story 911s before it, the handiwork of Porsche’s Sonderwunsch customization program, wildlife, and culture. It was built to mark 75 years of the marqueMarqueA brand name of a car manufacturer, particularly one associated with prestige, such as Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, or Aston Martin. The one-offOne-OffA single, unique item created for one client, with no duplicates, such as a custom car, watch, or yacht. One-offs offer the highest exclusivity, and commissioning one requires working closelyGo to One-Off Glossary’s most head-turning feature, without a doubt, is its unique finish. At a glance, the Land Down Under looks like a shiny silver 911, but a closer inspection reveals dual ChromaFlair color gradient paintwork that actually transitions between Southern Cross Blue above the shoulderline and Terra Australis Red. Porsche says the finish was applied by hand and took over 300 hours to complete. Rounding out the exterior details are hidden hand-painted graphics courtesy of Sydney-based artist Werner Bronkhorst and a set of staggered 20- and 21-inch Turbo Exclusive wheels.
Inside the vehicle, the cabin is covered in a bespoke mixture of Dark Night Blue and Coolibah Brown leather, the latter a hue developed specifically for this car. The space is also equipped with 18-way adaptive sport seats featuring 14,417 perforations organized to form a coherent visual pattern and a headrest with a special 75th anniversary logo. The standout interior detail, though, is an embroidered headliner that depicts what the Southern Hemisphere sky looked like over Uluru in 1951, Porsche’s first year in Australia.
The 911 Turbo S’s powertrain has been wisely left untouched. The two-door is powered by a hybrid-assisted 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat six that makes 710 hp and 590 ft lbs of torque. Thanks to all that electrified grunt, the car can shoot from zero to 60 mph in just 2.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 200 mph.
Porsche didn’t say how much the 911 Turbo S Land Down Under costs, which is standard operating procedure with special projects like this. We don’t think we’re going too far out on a limb in guessing that it probably cost well north of the standard sports car’s $270,300 starting price.
