The New Porsche 911 Turbo S Is Here

Porche’s range-topping 911 just got a serious upgrade. Porsche has unveiled the 992.2 generation Turbo S in the lead up to this week’s IAA Mobility Show in Munich. The newest version of the iconic sports car is the latest model to adopt a hybrid powertrain, a change that has resulted in more power and better acceleration than ever before.

Any discussion of the top-of-the-line variant must begin with its powertrain. The Turbo S features the same “T-Hybrid” technology as the first electrified 911, the 992.2 Carrera GTS. In both cars, the system consists of a 3.6-liter flat-six, a 1.9-kWh high-voltage battery, and an electric motor, but the Turbo S has two turbochargers, compared to the Carrera GTS’s one.

That change bumps total output to 701 hp and 590 ft lbs of torque, which is routed to all four wheels via an eight-speed PDK transmission. Not only is that 61 hp more than the previous Turbo S, it’s 167 hp more than the other 911 hybrid. That output also makes the variant the most powerful road-going 911 yet.

Porsche has put all that extra grunt to good use. We’re still waiting on a top speed, but the marque says the car can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the previous Turbo S. During the final stage of testing, it also circled the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7:03.92. That time around the notorious 12.9-mile track is 14 seconds faster than its predecessor.

The hybrid system isn’t the new Turbo S’s only mechanical upgrades. The car comes with the latest version of the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control system, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a titanium sport exhaust system.

As with other 992.2-gen 911s, the Turbo S, which is available as a coupe or cabriolet, doesn’t look radically different from what came before. The general shape and stance are untouched, but the aero kit features more active elements and there are contrasting Turbonite accents. The wheels also feature a new center lock design. The streamlined cabin also features Turbonite accents and comes with two seats standard, though a set of rear seats is available as an option at no extra charge.

The 992.2 Turbo S will launch as part of Porsche upcoming 2026 model year lineup. Unsurprisingly, the variant will not come cheaply. The coupe will start at $272,650 and the cabriolet at $286,650, an increase of around $30,000 and $40,000, respectively.
