BMW’s ‘Neue Klasse’ iX3 Can Travel 434 Miles on a Single Charge

It looks like BMW is going to deliver on its promises.

The German automaker has finally opened the order books for the iX3, the first of its eagerly anticipated “Neue Klasse” EVs. That means the vehicle configurator has gone live, revealing the SUV’s official range and how much it will cost.

Back when BMW unveiled the battery-powered version of its compact SUV last fall, the marque said it was targeting a range of around 400 miles for the vehicle. The configurator lists a range of 383 to 434 miles for the EV. The upper figure is attainable by fitting the EV with 20-inch wheels wrapped in summer tires, which are available as a no-cost option, while the all-season version of the same tires delivers the lower figure. Opting for larger wheels does affect the range, but nowhere near as dramatically as we’ve seen from other battery-powered vehicles. The iX3 has a range of 398 miles when optioned with 21-inch wheels with summer tires, 399 miles when optioned with 21-inch wheels with all-season tires, and 392 miles when optioned with 22-inch wheels with summer tires.

The iX3 isn’t the longest-range EV on the market—that would be the latest iteration of the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which can travel up to 512 miles on a single charge—but it is near the top of its class. In case drivers still feel a little anxiety about the 400-ish-mile figure, BMW has revealed that the EV’s battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent with a 21-minute charge. If that’s too long, roughly 185 miles of range can be added after 10 minutes connected to a DC fast charger.

The launch of the configurator also means we now how much the iX3 will set drivers back. Only one version of the EV will be available at launch, the iX3 50 xDrive, and it will start at $62,850. That price, as BMW Blog points out, positions it squarely between the gas-powered X3 30 xDrive, which starts at $52,650, and the performance-oriented X3 M50 xDrive, which starts at $67,850.

The iX3 is a BMW, though, so there are also plenty of add-ons to consider. Some of the available options include a standalone heated steering wheel (which adds $200 to the cost), perforated Merino leather ($1,500), and M Sport Professional Package ($4,000), which an M sport aero package, upgraded brakes, and a special steering wheel. An iX3 with all the available bells and whistle would cost just shy of $86,000.

Those interested in securing their 2027 iX3 can reserve theirs through the automaker’s website now. All they need to do is configure their SUV, submit all relevant information to a BMW dealer of their choosing, and pay a $1,000 deposit. Deliveries of the EV are scheduled to start this fall.
