The best collaborations can often take a little time—just ask Eric Wind.

After purchasing his first HG Timepiece hourglass, made by storied designer Marc Newson, back in 2020, the watch savant and owner of Wind Vintage (and one of our Masters of LuxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary) remained enamored with the piece for years. Now, Wind has teamed up with the very man behind the design to unveil his own colorful new collection of hourglasses.

The HG Timepiece hourglass and its sculptural silhouette made its debut in 2010. As of late, the company has switched from using steel nanoballs to tell time (like the ones inside Win’s own hourglass, which had a copper hue) to using larger titanium nanoballs. The swap not only makes the pieces more visually striking, but it offers up both a more dramatic sound and the ability to transform the nanoballs into more colors via a heating process.

And, since Wind’s favorite color is green, it only made sense to incorporate the hue in his collab. After approaching the HG Timepiece team, Wind and Newson began a two-year journey of research to get the shade of green just right. And the hourglasses now up for grabs here also have a clearer glass than previous offerings.

“If you had told me a few years ago that I would be collaborating with Marc Newson, I would have told you that you were joking,” Wind said in a blog post. “Marc Newson is a legend, and I would argue the greatest living industrial designer. From chairs to cars to watches to clocks to knives to pens to jackets to his famous hourglasses, everything Marc touches is special.”

The Wind Vintage HG Timepieces are available in limited quantities for the general public, priced at CHF 17,500 (around $22,000) for the five-minute model, CHF 27,900 (nearly $35,000) for the 10-minute iteration, and CHF 63,500 (around $79,000) for the 30-minute option. And if you manage to snag one, you’ll be in good company: Wind has all three of the hourglasses in his collection, while Newson chose to add the 30-minute model to his personal treasure trove.
