With blue-chip Bordeaux and rare Burgundy, Acker’s latest Hong Kong auction leans on provenance as the market cools.

As we all know, provenance is everything in high-stakes collecting, even with fine wine. And on April 11, Acker Merrall & Condit returns to Hong Kong with a sale that leans heavily on it. To be staged at the JW Marriott Hotel, the auction brings together nearly 1,000 lots anchored by what the house describes as "one of the world’s most important private cellars." It is a collection as “immaculate” as they come, built on the kind of depth, scale, and near-pristine condition that's hard to come by in the wine-collecting world. The backbone, of course, is Bordeaux, and it arrives in quite a force. The Chairman’s Collection spans more than 300 lots, with a clear emphasis on the modern greats (2009 and 2010), alongside a formidable roster of First Growths. Lafite, Latour, Mouton Rothschild, and Pétrus, in particular, are presented across formats that move from standard bottles to double..
