Watch Flexes: Chalamet’s Urban Jurgensen, Beckham’s AP

As far as watch flexes go, they may not get any better than Cartier faithful Timothée Chalamet casually rocking an Urban Jürgensen UJ-2 on the streets of New York this week. Urban Jürgensen is one of those IYKYK brands. The Danish-Swiss watchmaker was founded in Copenhagen over two and a half centuries ago, but was relaunched earlier this year with the help of master independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen. The time-only UJ-2 is one of three six-figure models Urban Jürgensen released in June with the rebrand, meaning Chalamet has truly captured the watch zeitgeist.

Another surprising watch choice came from Romeo Beckham. The English model, son of soccer legend David Beckham and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, sported a vintage Audemars Piguet Bamboo at the Singapore Grand Prix. Produced from the 1970s to the ‘90s, Bamboos come in three sizes (27mm, 22mm, and 20mm) that are all far smaller than the Rolexes and Richard Milles that young Becks typically sports. His example is also made almost entirely of solid 18-karat gold, adding an extra layer of exclusivity (and beauty).

Hats off to the two youngins for challenging the horological status quo.

Tonatiuh: Zenith Defy Skyline Sapphire

Tonatiuh is set to shine on the big screen alongside Jennifer Lopez in Kiss of the Spider Woman. He shone bright on the streets of New York City this week, too, wearing a dazzling Zenith adorned with 45 baguette-cut blue sapphires. Released in 2023, the Defy Skyline Sapphire features a 41mm, octagonal-shaped steel case with a faceted, sapphire-set bezel and a blue-toned sunburst dial covered in the Swiss watchmaker’s iconic four-pointed star. Powered by the in-house El Primero 3620 high-frequency automatic movement, the piece shows Zenith’s very first 1/10th of a second indicator at 9 o’clock and a date window at 3 o’clock. The boutique-exclusive costs $29,000.

Tom Brady: Patek Philippe Nautilus Travel Time

Retired NFL star and serious watch collector Tom Brady pulled out a classic Patek for the opening of his CardVault store in New York on Tuesday. Released in 2021, the Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph in 18-karat gold with a blue sunburst dial (Ref. 5990/1R-001) follows a stainless steel model (Ref. 5990/1A) that was launched in 2014. A jet-setter’s best friend, the watch combines a flyback chronograph, indications for two time zones, and an analog date at 12 o’clock synchronized with local time. Two different sets of rose-gold hands show the local hours and the hours at home, while day and night displays for home and local time sit at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, respectively. This bestie will cost you $152,503.

Timothée Chalamet: Urban Jürgensen UJ-2

Timothée Chalamet is venturing into bold new wristwatch territory. The Cartier faithful, who counts a Tank Cintrée, Panthère, and Crash in his collection, wore a newly released Urban Jürgensen timepiece at the New York Film Festival on Monday. Designed by master independent watchmaker Kari Voutilainen, the time-only UJ2 features a 39mm case available in either platinum or rose gold and a guilloché dial with a small seconds display at 5 o’clock and a power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock. It is also equipped with a double-balance-wheel natural escapement (Caliber UJ-2) that provides a power reserve of 52 hours. Chalamet opted for a platinum example with a custom orange strap. The UJ2 retails for 105,000 Swiss francs, or approximately $128,000.

Ryan Reynolds: Panerai Radiomir

Ryan Reynolds must have a thing for green. (Maybe it’s a throwback to the Green Lantern?) We spotted him wearing an emerald-faced Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch last year and a green-dialed Panerai Radiomir this week. Green was all the rage in horology in 2024, so he’s pretty much on trend. Released in 2019, this iteration of the Radiomir (PAM00995) features a hulking 45 mm steel case, a “Military” green dial, and a brown calf leather strap. Powered by the in-house caliber P.4000, a.k.a. Panerai’s thinnest automatic movement, the three-hander has centrally mounted hour and minute hands and a small seconds hand at 9 o’clock. It also offers an excellent three-day power reserve (72 hours). It originally retailed for $12,000.

Romeo Beckham: Audemars Piguet Bamboo

Romeo Beckham isn’t following in his father’s footsteps—with regards to watches, at least. He showed off an Audemars Piguet instead of David Beckham’s favorite Tudor at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. Not just any AP, either: It was a coveted vintage Bamboo. Produced from the early 1970s to the late 1990s, Bamboo watches were available in three sizes (27mm, 22mm, and 20mm) and in white or yellow gold. They all have a distinctive integrated bracelet that resembles stalks of bamboo, hence the line’s name. Beckham’s is a yellow-gold example with an “AP” patterned dial. You can pick up a similar piece on Chrono24 for five figures.

Jacob Elordi: Cartier Panthère de Cartier

Jacob Elordi wore an 18-karat gold Cartier Panthère to the L.A. premiere of Frankenstein on Monday, following in the footsteps of fellow Hollywood leading man Timothee Chalamet, who has since moved on to a more horologically advanced realm with his new Urban Jürgensen UJ-2. The Australian actor is yet another example of a tall-framed man wearing a small Cartier on a slim bracelet. Keith Richards famously rocked gold Panthère throughout the ‘80s, and more recently, the dainty watch has been spotted on Giveon, Colman Domingo, and, of course, Chalamet. Small Cartiers have also been embraced by Dwayne Wade, Paul Mescal, Tyler, the Creator, and Joseph Quinn. Looks like the small watch trend is here to stay. You should get used to Elordi in Cartier, too: He was just named a brand ambassador for the Parisian jeweler. His small, yellow gold and steel Panthère retails for $9,750.

Daniel Craig: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

Daniel Craig may have relinquished the role of James Bond, but he’s still repping 007’s favorite watch brand. The British actor wore an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra to the screening of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery at the BFI London Film Festival on Wednesday evening. The certified chronometer makes a statement on the wrist, showcasing a 41 mm symmetrical case and bracelet in the watchmaker’s 18-karat Sedna gold (rose gold alloy) and a silvery dial with a distinctive horizontal “teak” pattern inspired by the decks of luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary sailboats.
