The Chopard L.U.C. Quattro Mark IV is a quiet celebration of everything Chopard does best. For those who know, the L.U.C name is a nod to Louis Ulysse Chopard, but it’s also shorthand for the brand’s in-house watchmaking workshop, founded by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele a quarter century ago. That workshop was a game-changer, giving Chopard the freedom to create its own movements, from the simple to the seriously complicated.

Back in the day, complicated watches were all about showing off: open dials, visible mechanics, and a lot of “look what we can do.” Chopard did that too, but always with a jeweler’s eye for detail. That’s the thing: Chopard isn’t just a watchmaker. It’s a jeweler, and that shows in the finishing. Insiders know that Chopard’s finishing is up there with (if not better than) the big names. It’s just that not everyone’s paying attention.

Chopard

The Quattro system is a classic Chopard innovation: four barrels, nine days of power reserve. In earlier versions, they’d put the power reserve indicator right on the dial. Useful, sure, but not exactly minimalist. The new L.U.C Quattro Mark IV in platinum is a wonder of restraint. At 39 mm, it’s perfectly sized, and the deep blue dial is just gorgeous—rich, textured, and quietly confident.

The dial is all about balance: just the essentials. Elegant hour and minute hands, a small seconds sub-dial that also holds a date indication. The indices and hands pop against that blue, and the whole thing feels crisp and modern, but timeless. Flip it over, and you get the real show: beautifully engraved movement, visible power reserve, and finishing that’s almost too good to hide. It’s not a skeleton watchSkeleton WatchA timepiece whose movement is cut away to expose its inner workings, with plates and bridges delicately hand-engraved and polished. There’s even a quick-release strap system, because why not make life a little easier? It’s a small touch, but it speaks to the way Chopard thinks about the wearer’s experience. The L.U.C Quattro Mark IV is a perfect example of some of Chopard’s multiple strengths: technical watchmaking and high-end finishing. It’s a watch for people who appreciate the details, who want something elegant but not flashy, and who know that true luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary is often found in what you don’t see right away.
