Some of the Best Jewelry at the Golden Globes…Were Worn by Men
In the last few centuries, some of the most memorable pieces of jewelry have adorned famous (and infamous) women–think Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Windsor, Marie Antoinette, Josephine Bonaparte. But go back a few more millennia and the precious gems and metals that pharaohs, emperors, datus, and ancient kings donned on the daily might challenge that notion.
Last week, celebrities at the Golden Globe Awards walked the red carpet in their most splendid finery, but it was the jewelry that adorned men’s necks, wrists, and lapels that arguably stole the spotlight and kept people talking. Is jewelry beyond watches, cufflinks, and tuxedo studs only a trend, or is stunning jewelry on men a revival that’s here to stay? Is this a look destined to remain within rarefied circles—or will it eventually trickle outward?
We’ll have to see. Here were the night’s most head-turning eye candy, and the men who wore them.
