The first painting Manny Pangilinan ever bought for himself was a harvest scene. It was in the early 80s and he was based in Hong Kong at the time, but he purchased it on a visit to Manila. “It attracted me because harvesting is supposed to bring luck, and it was a very nice painting. I think it was by an artist named Rodriguez. I bought it for 15 thousand pesos and brought it back with me to Hong Kong where it hung in my room at First Pacific for a very long time,” says Pangilinan, chief executive of Hong Kong-listed First Pacific, as well as chairman and president of Metro Pacific Investments, among others.
