The Land Rover Defender is a success in so many ways. It took a much-loved design and actually brought it forward in a very well-accepted way. It is straight-lined and clean, but it also has softness and even a little playfulness. It is a toy for which you can buy toys. It is, and many people hate this, even cute. Then you have the Octa. The Land Rover Octa is next level. There are whole cottage industries dedicated to making Land Rovers, old and new, do things faster, tougher, or dirtier. So Land Rover itself had to do something a bit different— and show them all how to do it right. Different meant, among other things, going onto the Nurburgring. With knobby all-terrain tires.
