Maybach Is Planning to Open a Members’ Club on a 500-Foot Gigayacht
You could soon have an exclusive new hangout on the high seas. Mercedes-Maybach, along with Matthias Bosse’s Splendid Sea, revealed plans for a floating private members’ club at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last week. Located on a 500-foot, purpose-built gigayacht called Beyond Horizons, the aptly named Maybach Ocean Club will offer 30 suites with private balconies, world-class gastronomy, top-tier wellness facilities, thrilling water activities, and of course, the marque’s signature luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary.
Maybach envisions a membership model in which 300 co-owners will each be entitled to four weeks on the yacht (including private suites) per year, as reported by Boat International. (To prevent that cruise ship feel, stays will be staggered, with only 72 guests when fully occupied.) Owners can also jump aboard anytime they are in the same location as the yacht and enjoy the common areas.
As with Maybach’s creations on land, Beyond Horizons will blend traditional craftsmanship with sophisticated technology. The nameplate is touting clean fuel propulsion, meaning the vessel is more akin to the all-electric EQS 680 SUV rather than, say, the new SL 680 Monogram.
It showcases materials and colors directly inspired by the Maybach aesthetic and the automaker’s famous signet at the bow. The tailor-made interior is also replete with finishes that reflect the Maybach’s high standards and precision. The cascading decks, which are “layered like landscapes, Maybach says, open 50,000 square feet of space. Guests will find both intimate corners and expansive lounges with panoramic ocean views. At the stern, the beach club is equipped with a giant split-level infinity pool and layered teak terraces that lead to the sea. A few more steps down lies a swim platform with direct access to the water.
Exactly when you get to enjoy all of that is a big question mark. Splendid Sea has completed specifications, and competitive tenders have gone to multiple European shipyards, according to BI. The current target for the maiden season is 2029. Anyone interested in joining can request an invitation on the Maybach Ocean Club website. Members will be required to pay an annual fee of roughly five percent of the initial investment to cover crew management, fuel, port fees, insurance, and ongoing maintenance.
