The Battuto a Nido d’Ape is an iconic Murano glass vase that legendary Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa designed for Venini in 1940. Its undulating, tactile surface features small, hand-carved hexagonal facets in an irregular pattern that recalls a honeycomb or the intricate motifs of ancient handwoven textiles. The intensive cold-working “battuto,” or beaten, technique gives the glass its distinctive texture and reveals the precision of Murano’s master glassmakers.

Minotti: Saki Armchair by Nendo

The Saki armchair by Nendo for Minotti takes its name from the Japanese word for “blooming,” a fitting reference to its flower-bud-inspired form. Its rounded seat opens around sinuous back and armrest panels, which can be finished in lacquer, fabric, or leather. The lacquered versions bring a jewel-like finish to the soft silhouette, with color and sheen adding another layer to its sculptural form.

Hanoia: Zale Chess Set

Hanoia’s Zale chess set brings a little moonlit drama to the game. Its rippling surface comes from traditional Vietnamese lacquer techniques, with 3D engraving and colored sanding, adding depth and texture. Touches of gold leaf catch the light like reflections on water, while a built-in compartment keeps the chess pieces tucked away when the game is over.

BD Barcelona Design: The Explorer Cabinet by Jaime Hayon

Jaime Hayon’s Explorer cabinet gives lacquer a playful new form. A matte-lacquered interior creates a subtle contrast, while the sculptural form adds color and character to a functional storage piece.

Glas Italia: Sturm und Drang by Piero Lissoni

For Glas Italia, Piero Lissoni frames the Sturm und Drang mirror in hand-finished Murano glass. Each frame is assembled from individual elements, giving every piece its own subtle variations. A 5mm chamfered mirror sits at the center, while an optional LED system brings out the texture and depth of the glass.

Tom Dixon: Melt Slim Cone Floor Lamp

Tom Dixon’s Melt Slim Cone makes a jewel of a floor lamp. Its signature shade takes on a molten form with a mirror-like finish that reflects the room when switched off. Turn it on, and the surface gives way to a warm, glass-like glow from within, while the slim cone-shaped base keeps the silhouette clean and lets the shade take center stage.
