The Lamborghini Murciélago Believed to Be the Marque’s Last V-12 Stick Shift Is Headed to Auction

Here’s your chance to own the last Raging Bull of its kind.

A 2010 Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SV believed to be the last of the marque’s V-12’s to have a manual transmission will be auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s later this month. Not only is the SV, or Super Veloce, considered the finest version of the Diablo’s successor, but this particular vehicle is viewed as the best-specified example of it.

As hard as it may be to believe now, there was a time, in the not-so-distant past, when every Lamborghini to leave Sant’Agata Bolognese was a stick shift. But then in 2004, three years into the Murciélago’s reign atop the brand’s lineup, the company unveiled a new six-speed “e-Gear” automated manual gearbox. The e-Gear, which utilized paddle shifters, allowed for rapid gear changes without the use of a clutch pedal and would soon supplant the manual as the marque’s transmission of choice. In fact, by 2013, less than a decade after the e-Gear’s debut, Lamborghini released its last car to feature a manual, the Gallardo LP 560-2 50th Anniversario.

The Murciélago LP 670-4 SV may not be the last Raging Bull stick shift, but it is the last of the company’s flagship V-12’s to include the gearbox. Unveiled in 2009, the year before the model was replaced by the Aventador, the SV is a high-performance, track-focused variant that was designed and engineered to be the most hardcore version of the outgoing supercar. It has a more aggressive aero package, a modified suspension, and the most potent version of the model’s naturally aspirated 12-cylinder, which could produce 670 hp and 487 ft lbs of torque. Lamborghini announced plans to build 350 examples of the vehicle, but only 268 are thought to have actually left the factory.

Of those, only five rolled off the line equipped with a six-speed manual. The example up for auction was the last to leave the factory and thus is believed to be Lamborghini’s final V-12 manual, according to the auction house. That alone makes the car noteworthy, but it is also the only example finished in a dazzling coat of Ad Personam Marrone Eklipsis over a two-tone Marrone Janus and Avorio Lilium leather interior. The car, which is also one of just three equipped with a low-drag wing, had just 4,912 miles on it at the time of cataloging, suggesting that it remains in impeccable shape.

RM Sotheby’s is offering this Murciélago LP 670-4 SV without reserve. That means there’s no public sale estimate, but the auction house sold another Super Veloce, this one with an e-Gear transmission, for $3.14 million earlier this month. Bidding for supercar, which is RM Sotheby’s latest Sealed lot, opens Monday, Aug. 24, and runs through Wednesday, Aug. 26.
