Rolex’s New Swiss Alps Store Is the World’s Highest Watch Boutique
Rolex just took your watch shopping experience to new heights.
The Swiss manufactureManufactureA watchmaking term for a company that designs and produces most of its movements and components in-house, rather than relying on outside suppliers. Being a true manufacture signals deep expertise,Go to Manufacture Glossary has opened a new boutique that’s perched nearly 100,000 feet above sea level in the Swiss Alps, making it the world’s highest watch store. That means you can shop for your new Submariner, Land-Dweller, or Datejust surrounded by jaw-dropping panoramic views of the mountains beyond.
Run by Bucherer (the world’s biggest watch retailer, which Rolex bought back in 2023), the new store is located on the sixth floor of the Titlis Tower, a former telecommunications building that has been transformed into a tourist hot spot due to its prime perch on Mount Titlis. Architect firm Herzog & de Meuron were tasked with revamped the tower itself, but inside the boutique, Rolex architects helped the Bucherer team imbue the space with the Crown’s signature style.
As a result, the around 21,000-square-foot store is anchored by a natural stone table at its center, meant to be a sculpture piece. American walnut paneling lines the walls, while Verdi Alpi marble, in a deep green hue, is a focal point. The veining found there mimics the ocean, highlighting Rolex’s connection to the sea. Other details include oak flooring and seating clad in green velvet, leather, or a neutral beige fabric.
Elsewhere, shoppers can enjoy a bar and lounge, home to American walnut cases and vertical displays that show off Rolex’s timepieces. And, of course, don’t forget the massive windows that let you take in those snow-capped peaks. Partitions framing the windows nod to the Crown’s watches, too, adorned with a motif inspired by the fluting on the bezels of some of its timepieces.
Rolex’s new spot atop the tower makes sense. With around 1.1 million people making the journey to Mount Titlis each year, famous for its year-round glacier and the world’s first revolving cable car, the location is one of Switzerland’s most popular alpine destinations for winter-sports fanatics. We’re sure more than a few of those visitors will be stopping by to check out the lofty new boutique—even as the Crown raised its prices for the second time this year.
