The sky was overcast and a light drizzle hung over Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour as the fleet of offshore racing yachts lined up along the starting line for the Rolex China Sea Race 2026. Sails were hoisted and trimmed as crews edged their boats into position. At the starting horn, the yachts accelerated past the vibrant city skyline and into open water, beginning the 565-nautical-mile crossing to Subic Bay in the Philippines. It was a dreary Wednesday morning, and the crews knew the next three or more days could bring shifting monsoon winds, steep waves in heavy seas, and perhaps unexpected twists of fate that make the crossing a test of preparation, navigation, and stamina.
