Art Central 2026 Returns to Hong Kong With New Curators, Major Installations, and Over 100 Galleries

Entering its second decade, the fair expands its focus on Asian voices, large-scale projects, and technology-driven art during Hong Kong Art Month.

Art Central returns to Hong Kong this March for its eleventh edition, marking the fair’s second decade with an expanded program that brings together more than 100 galleries and over 500 artists from across Asia and beyond. Taking place from March 25 to 29, 2026 at the Central Harbourfront, with a VIP preview on March 24, the fair continues to position itself as one of the defining events of Hong Kong Art Month.

This year’s edition introduces new curatorial leadership, with Enoch Cheng overseeing curated gallery presentations and Zoie Yung leading the creative program. Both curators aim to situate Asian contemporary art within broader global conversations while maintaining a strong connection to Hong Kong’s cultural ecosystem.

Among the major additions is Central Stage, a new feature highlighting artists who have recently gained institutional recognition through museum exhibitions, biennials, or major commissions. Participants include the Tokyo collective Side Core, Iranian-American artist Elnaz Javani, Lithuanian installation artist Marta Frėjutė, Indonesian pioneer Arahmaiani, South African painter Esther Mahlangu, and photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen.

Beyond the gallery booths, the fair continues to emphasize ambitious installations and experimental work. The Yi Tai Sculpture and Installation Projects sector will present large-scale pieces that extend beyond traditional stand formats, including new works by Hong Kong artists and international practitioners exploring memory, technology, and the changing nature of urban life.

The 2026 creative program, curated by Yung, turns its attention to the influence of digital culture, artificial intelligence, and shifting social behavior on contemporary art. Highlights include a major commission by Hong Kong artist Kaitlyn Hau, whose large-scale installation uses motion capture and real-time visuals to explore the relationship between the body, technology, and perception.

Performance, video art, and talks will also play a larger role this year, with works examining themes such as virtual identity, migration, communication, and the accelerating pace of modern life. The programme reflects the fair’s growing ambition to function not only as a marketplace but as a platform for dialogue across disciplines.

Partner-led projects further expand the experience. UOB will present a large-scale ink installation by Hong Kong artist Ling Pui Sze inspired by microscopic imagery, while curated showcases from Macao and Indonesia highlight regional artistic developments. Visitors can also expect hospitality collaborations, pop-up bars, and dining concepts designed to make the fair as much a social destination as an art event.

As Hong Kong continues to reaffirm its position as Asia’s leading art hub, Art Central’s second decade signals a shift toward broader international reach while keeping its focus firmly on discovery. With new artists, new formats, and a growing emphasis on cross-disciplinary work, the 2026 edition aims to reflect the evolving landscape of contemporary art in the region.
