This week captures a pivotal moment in the global luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary landscape, where art, property, and publishing converge to signal shifting hierarchies. From the rarefied heights of the auction house to the reimagining of urban prestige across three continents, such dispatches trace a world in which luxury is no longer defined solely by possession, but rather by narrative and cultural authorship.

Frida Kahlo’s record-shattering sale of “El sueño (La cama)” signals a profound recalibration within the art market. In parallel, ground breaks on One Beverly Hills, a US$10-billion Aman-anchored sanctuary poised to reconfigure the very grammar of Los Angeles living.

Then we have Dubai’s skyline welcoming a new narrative as Mumbai-based Sunteck Realty asserts its global ambition with a flagship ultra-luxury development in the city’s most tightly held terrain. Completing this week’s narrative is the launch of Robb Report India, which showcases the maturation of the country’s ultra-high-net-worth demographic.

Kahlo rewrites the auction history

Frida Kahlo’s “El sueño (La cama)” has just rewritten history. At a Sotheby’s evening sale in New York, the haunting 1940 self-portrait achieved an extraordinary US$54.7 million, surpassing the long-standing benchmark set by Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1,” which commanded US$44.4 million in 2014. The result establishes a new auction record for any work by a woman artist, reaffirming Kahlo’s enduring sovereignty within the modern canon.

The sale further cements her position as one of the most singular cultural figures of the 20th century. In “El sueño,” Kahlo distills her lifelong engagement with pain and vulnerability into an almost hypnotic psychological tableau. It depicts the artist resting upon a floating bed while a dynamite-bound skeleton hovers overhead, a surreal meditation on mortality and corporeal fragility painted during a pivotal chapter of her life.

Yet, this moment transcends headline numbers. It marks a subtle but significant recalibration in the auction ecosystem, where collectors are increasingly privileging modern works of historic consequence and emotional resonance over speculative contemporary offerings.

One Beverly Hills on the rise

Ground has officially broken on One Beverly Hills, the US$10-billion master development poised to redefine Beverly Hills’ luxury landscape. This landmark project, notably anchored by Aman, will introduce the brand’s first West Coast hotel alongside two sculptural towers of Aman-branded residences. The move positions the enclave as a rare fusion of hospitality and curated lifestyle.

Spread across 17.5 acres at the coveted intersection of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards, One Beverly Hills will encompass a 78-suite Aman hotel and a private Aman Club exceeding 100,000 square feet. Complementing these are destination dining and retail concepts, and even an expansive network of botanical gardens designed to evoke Aman’s trademark serenity within a distinctly metropolitan framework. Residences are projected to begin at approximately US$20 million (penthouses are said to rise beyond US$40 million).

For the ultra-high-net-worth buyer, One Beverly Hills offers a fully realized ecosystem where privacy and privilege intersect with experiential refinement. With completion timed ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the project presents a decisive shift toward resort-style living embedded within the city’s most storied terrain.

Sunteck Realty’s first foray into Dubai

Mumbai-based Sunteck Realty Ltd has officially entered the UAE market. It’s a strategy that has increasingly proven vital within Dubai’s competitive ultra-prime landscape.
