This week’s headlines reveal a world in the midst of bold reintroductions. Across sectors, brands and institutions are pushing past familiar boundaries, whether at sea, on land, or in the ateliers where history is meticulously shaped by hand.

Explora Journeys sets sail for an ambitious new course with its first-ever Asian season. This marks an interesting shift in high-end cruising, one that charts toward more immersive, culturally attuned travel. Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Global, likewise, looks beyond the Gulf, targeting Italy as the debut site for its first overseas luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary development. On the collecting front, Sotheby’s unveils one of the rarest Audemars Piguet pocket watches ever to hit the market, a mechanical opus dormant for over 100 years.

Middle-East Luxury Goes Mediterranean

Red Sea Global (RSG) announces its first international expansion with a new flagship project in Italy. The move signals a shift away from purely domestic giga-resorts after the success of the Red Sea and Amaala. During the Reuters NEXT Gulf summit, CEO John Pagano says that the Italian venture fits its model of sustainability-forward, direct-contracted project management. This sort of bridge to the West underscores the company’s ambition to transform itself from a domestic megaproject developer into an international luxuryLuxuryA lifestyle defined by exceptional quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, and sophistication, encompassing the finest products, services, and experiences that represent the highest standards of refinement and excellence.Go to Luxury Glossary-lifestyle force. With Italy’s unique blend of historic charm, Mediterranean ecology, and luxury cultural cachet, the stage is set for RSG to bring its signature vision of seamless, sustainability-driven development to Europe.

While the project details remain under wraps, the announcement alone positions the company as one of the most closely watched players in global destination-making. Pagano adds that the Italian venture fits its model of sustainability-forward, direct-contracted project management. So far, RSG has awarded more than 18,000 contracts for its Saudi projects alone, a method it now aims to export to new global markets.

Explora Journeys Sets Sail for Asia

Explora Journeys presents a new course as it unveils its 2027 to 2028 Journeys Collection. Of course, the headline announcement in all of this is the brand’s first-ever Asia deployment, which will soon be led by the upcoming Explora III. The collection comes with the brand’s most ambitious set of itineraries to date.

We can expect 28 immersive voyages, calling on 47 destinations across Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, among others. Overnight stays in cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bali, and Ha Long Bay should also offer guests more venues for deeper, more meaningful cultural exchanges. The collection is meant to echo the brand’s ethos of slow, intentional travel, as well as its renewed focus on experiential immersion.

Beyond the region, meanwhile, Explora Journeys strengthens its global footprint with nearly 100 curated itineraries across 59 countries. Zeroing in on longer port calls, seasonal timing anchored on cherry blossoms and maple foliage, and destination-driven programming, the group continues to rethink what modern ocean luxury means.

The Most Complicated Audemars Piguet Pocket

Photo: RM Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s reveals a remarkable horological masterpiece this week. The legendary Audemars Piguet “Grosse Pièce,” regarded as the most complex AP pocket watch ever, is heading to auction. Long considered a pinnacle of early 20th-century haute horlogerie, the watch has resurfaced after more than 100 years in private collections. For collectors, it represents a fascinating blend of art, science, and rarity.

Created over a century ago, this masterpiece features 18 complications, including a minute repeater, split-seconds chronograph, perpetual calendar, and a stunning astronomical display. Its celestial chart maps 315 stars and 18 constellations, as viewed from the night sky above London. The Grosse Pièce, in many ways, exemplifies the craftsmanship and astronomical precision that defined Audemars Piguet’s golden era.

The Grosse Pièce’s reemergence marks a significant moment for the heritage-watch market and a highlight of this auction season. It also illuminates the legacy of Audemars Piguet as a maker deeply conversant with the cosmos, mathematics, acoustics, and artistry. The piece is expected to fetch between US$500,000 and US$1 million this December. Of course, we’re betting it’s going to be worth much, much more.
