Inside the Launch: The Robb Report Philippines Car Issue Arrives
Robb Report Philippines’ Car Issue has arrived.
Its launch was marked with a relaxed breakfast gathering at the Manila Polo Club. The issue pays tribute to all things automotive–from the most exciting new models and remarkable cars at auction to the legendary vehicles that have shaped automotive history.
Robb Report Philippines partnered with the Manila Sports Car Club, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of sports cars.
The morning began as guests arrived at the venue in their sports cars. Fine automobiles ranging from cherished classics to coveted limited-edition models lined the parking area, setting a definitive atmosphere of automotive prestige.
Among the standout vehicles were several Porsche 911s, a Lotus GT430, Honda S2000s, and Toyota MR2s. A notable highlight was the Toyota Sports 800, the marqueMarqueA brand name of a car manufacturer, particularly one associated with prestige, such as Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, or Aston Martin. The term emphasizes a make's heritage and identity beyond product lines,Go to Marque Glossary’s first production sports car and an exciting sight even among seasoned collectors. Carl Cunanan, Robb Report Philippines’ Cars and Watches Editor, arrived in the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid, a model he explored in-depth in the Car Issue. Also spotted was the Ferrari 296 GT, also featured in the latest issue—a striking icon that continues to captivate.
Breakfast served in bento boxes marked the start of the program, ushering in insightful conversations among fellow automobile enthusiasts. Eddie Salonga, acting chairman of the Manila Sports Car Club, ceremoniously opened the gathering with three nostalgic toots from a vintage reed bulb horn, an homage to the early days of motoring. This charming gesture set a warm tone for the spirited conversations that would follow.
Kevin Clark, a club member and host for the morning, then upheld a club tradition by inviting members to announce any newly acquired vehicles for induction—a tradition that reflects the club’s ever-expanding collection of the finest automobiles in the country.
Yvette Fernandez, Chief of Editorial Content, formally introduced the publication to the club. She acknowledged the presence of Charlie Rufino, a longtime member of the club, who was also featured in the Premiere Issue.
“Charlie, with all of you, recently organized a very successful Sports Cars for a Cause, which raised a lot of money for the Sisters of Mary charity. So, aside from being some of the most successful people in the country, you’re also some of the most generous people. Thank you for all that you do.”
Her remarks were followed by Carl Cunanan, Cars and Watches Editor, who shared what readers can expect from the Car Issue, sparking lively conversations among the guests.
He also acknowledged the presence of Willy Tee Ten, president of the Autohub Group, Steven Tan, president and ceo of Mazda Philippines, alongside Masando Hashimoto, president of Toyota Motor Philippines.
The club then proceeded with a line of interesting talks about upcoming races in the country, automobile engineering, and vehicle history. This included a fascinating discussion on how the Toyota Publica and Sports 800 led to the Toyota Corolla, one of the world’s best-selling cars since its introduction in 1974.
What followed was an exchange of insights and anecdotes that exemplified their shared passion for fine automobiles. By late morning, the parking area had turned into a vibrant forum, with members animatedly discussing each other’s vehicles, sharing the deeply personal significance each car holds for its owner.
The Robb Report Philippines Car Issue launch event was a celebration of automotive passion, refined camaraderie, and the discerning lifestyle that defines the publication. It marked an apt tribute to the realm of high-end motoring, leaving guests inspired, connected, and looking forward to the next gathering of like-minded enthusiasts.
